CoQ10, Mitochondrial Health & Healthy Aging: Benefits of Ubiquinol for Longevity
Discover CoQ10 benefits for heart health, energy, mitochondria and healthy aging. Shop ubiquinol CoQ10 at Rise Wellness in Prineville, Oregon.
When we talk about longevity, I think we sometimes make it more complicated than it needs to be.
One of the foundations of healthy aging is helping our cells continue doing what they were designed to do — including producing energy efficiently. And that brings us to something I think deserves much more attention: Coenzyme Q10, or CoQ10.
At Rise Wellness & Longevity in Prineville, Oregon, our approach to wellness and longevity goes beyond simply treating symptoms. We focus on nutrition, exercise, metabolic health, hormones, supplementation, healthy aging and the everyday habits that can help people feel stronger and healthier as they get older.
CoQ10 fits perfectly into that conversation.
What Is CoQ10?
CoQ10 is a naturally occurring compound found throughout the body and plays an important role in mitochondrial function and cellular energy production.
Think of your mitochondria as tiny energy-producing structures inside your cells. They help convert nutrients into energy your body can actually use.
That makes mitochondrial health especially relevant to organs with significant energy demands, including the heart, brain, liver and kidneys.
CoQ10 also functions as an antioxidant, helping protect cells from oxidative stress.
This is one reason I consider mitochondrial support an important part of a comprehensive wellness and longevity strategy, rather than focusing exclusively on weight or appearance.
Why Ubiquinol Instead of Regular CoQ10?
There are different forms of CoQ10.
The product we've brought into Rise contains ubiquinol, the reduced form of CoQ10. Ubiquinol is highly bioavailable and is designed to be readily absorbed and utilized by the body.

Our new product is Life Extension Super Ubiquinol CoQ10 with Enhanced Mitochondrial Support, providing:
- 100 mg of ubiquinol per softgel
- 100 mg of shilajit fulvic acid complex
- 60 softgels per bottle
The formula is designed to support cardiovascular health, cellular energy and healthy mitochondrial function. For most people, the manufacturer's recommended serving is simple: one softgel per day with food.
CoQ10 Becomes Especially Interesting When We Talk About Statins
This is something I think more people should know about.
Statin medications are widely prescribed to lower cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk. However, research has found that statin therapy can also reduce circulating levels of CoQ10.
An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that both lipophilic and hydrophilic statins were associated with reductions in circulating CoQ10 concentrations. The effect was observed with both lower- or moderate-intensity and high-intensity statin therapy.
That doesn't mean you should stop taking your statin. Never discontinue or change a prescription medication without discussing it with the healthcare professional managing your treatment.
It does mean that CoQ10 is worth discussing with your physician if you take a statin.
Some research has also investigated whether CoQ10 supplementation may help people experiencing statin-associated muscle symptoms. A meta-analysis of 12 randomized controlled trials involving 575 patients reported improvements in several muscle-related symptoms with CoQ10 supplementation, although the scientific literature on this subject has not been completely consistent.
For someone who is not taking a statin, one 100 mg softgel daily is generally the product's recommended serving.
For people taking statins, 200 mg — two softgels — is a dose commonly considered in CoQ10 supplementation, but I recommend discussing that higher intake with your physician or prescribing clinician rather than automatically doubling your dose. Your medication, health history and individual needs matter.
What Does This Have to Do With Longevity?
A lot.
To me, longevity isn't simply about adding years to your life.
It's about protecting your ability to move, think, exercise, recover and enjoy those years.
Healthy aging depends on an enormous network of interconnected systems: cardiovascular health, metabolic health, muscle mass, hormones, sleep, nutrition, physical activity and cellular function.
Mitochondrial function belongs in that conversation because mitochondria are fundamental to cellular energy production.
There is no supplement that replaces exercise, good nutrition, adequate sleep or appropriate medical care. But targeted supplementation can be another tool in a well-designed wellness strategy.
That's how we approach supplements at Rise. We don't want people taking 20 different products simply because someone on social media told them to. We want to understand why we're using something.
